The Jackson Laboratory

The Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative

The Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative (MCGI) is an alliance of oncology providers across Maine led by The Jackson Laboratory with funding from the Harold Alfond Foundation™. The initiatives’ primary goal is to support the delivery of personalized cancer care in community settings.

MCGI provides education and drug access infrastructure in one of the most rural areas in the country through partnerships with every oncology practice in the state. The initiative began as a response to limited access to genomic testing for Maine patients. It has since grown into a model for community-based precision oncology, or personalized cancer care, in a rural setting.

Over 1,700 people living with cancer in Maine—from Caribou to Kittery—have received support from MCGI. Today, MCGI continues to deepen the integration of personalized cancer care within community oncology practices across Maine and Northern New England.
